In September 2026, New Jersey Transit (NJ Transit), under the direction of the Governor of New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill, unveiled an updated digital experience for customers. This includes a renovated website that has various standout improvements over its previous versions, such as:

  • Enhanced Navigation
  • Better Accessibility
  • More focus on system status data

Navvie, an AI-based chatbot, was also launched, which users can access on the website. It helps commuters to plan their trips and access travel details easily. The agency's mobile application will receive updates to adjust the experience according to customer feedback.

According to Kris Kolluri, President and Chief Executive Officer of NJ Transit, the renovated website gives priority to customers, and the digital assistant offers commuters a modern and easier way for trip planning and accessing travel data. He also said that this launch shows that Governor Mikie Sherrill is dedicated to providing a next-generation transit experience for the people of New Jersey.

The renewed website comes with a simplified interface to enable rapid access to features that are used often. It places significant emphasis on showing commuter data such as service notifications, advisories, and various other vital trip details, and on a straightforward presentation of rail, bus, and light-rail schedules. There would be further upgrades in the latter part of September 2026, which would include favorites and a breaking news section on the home screen.

This launch comes shortly after the agency hosted industry professionals for an industry day to discuss ideas and possibilities on various approaches to using real-time data to enhance the way in which NJ Transit relays system status and customer data. The industry experts showed significant interest in the request for information (RFI) by the agency. NJ Transit issued an RFI in June 2026 to procure data from companies that offer real-time transit communication platforms. As of now, the agency relays information via the following media:

  • Station and onboard digital signboards
  • DepartureVision and MyBus platforms
  • Mobile apps
  • Websites and microsites
  • SMS and push alerts
  • Email notifications
  • Social media platforms
  • Real-time data feeds and third-party data feeds
  • Public address and operational messaging systems

The agency plans to give final contract for the development of the new system in 2027.

Impact on the Information and Communication Technology Industry

According to Precedence Research, the launch of the upgraded mobile application by New Jersey Transit is expected to boost the information and communication technology industry. Public transport is used by almost all age groups, but not all of them are tech-savvy and can access digital technologies with ease.

NJ Transit aims to resolve this issue by simplifying the interface of the application and displaying trip details more prominently. This will boost the adoption of digital workflows, as it provides significant advantages in planning trips and procuring relevant information on a single platform, rather than asking questions at various booths in public transport offices.

Impact on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Market

The global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Market size was USD 757.58 billion in 2025, is calculated at USD 900.00 billion in 2026, and is expected to reach around USD 4,216.29 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 18.73% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, the introduction of the renewed mobile application by NJ Transit is expected to propel the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Market. The AI chatbot, Navvie, helps people easily access the website, plan their journey, and get travel details. The simple interface of the application will complement this feature, as people are usually in a hurry during travel time and need accurate information quickly. This development will boost the adoption of automation technologies in public transport systems.

Impact on the Cybersecurity Market

The global cybersecurity market size was valued at USD 301.91 billion in 2025, calculated at USD 339.96 billion in 2026, and is expected to reach around USD 969.45 billion by 2035. The market is expanding at a solid CAGR of 12.37% over the forecast period 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, the launch of the upgraded mobile application by NJ Transit is expected to boost the cybersecurity market. This upgraded application is expected to be widely adopted, which would result in an increase in the usage of digital operations. It will be responsible for the creation of some vulnerable endpoints, which would be at significant risk of cyberattacks. This application stores vital user and public data that can be misused, which would also result in the violation of stringent data privacy regulations. This will encourage them to adopt advanced cybersecurity solutions to secure their digital operations and critical data.
