ROHM Co., Ltd., a prominent Japanese semiconductor and electronics company, and Tata Electronics, a leading force in India’s electronics and semiconductor manufacturing space, have announced a strategic partnership focused on semiconductor manufacturing in India for both domestic and international markets. The collaboration brings together the complementary strengths of the two companies and is aimed at expanding business opportunities while deepening cooperation between the semiconductor ecosystems of Japan and India.

ROHM and Tata Electronics Partnership

The initial phase of the partnership will focus on building a manufacturing framework for power semiconductors in India. This will combine ROHM’s advanced device design and power semiconductor technologies with Tata Electronics’ growing capabilities in semiconductor assembly, testing, and backend manufacturing. By aligning their technical expertise and integrating their respective sales channels, the two companies plan to unlock new opportunities in the Indian market and deliver higher-value solutions to customers across automotive, industrial, and other key sectors.

As a first concrete step under the agreement, Tata Electronics will undertake the assembly and testing of ROHM’s automotive-grade N-channel 100V, 300A silicon MOSFET, which has been designed in India. The device will be packaged in a TOLL format, with mass production shipments targeted to begin next year. Looking ahead, both companies will also evaluate opportunities for co-developing advanced and high-value packaging technologies. Products manufactured through this collaboration will be jointly marketed by ROHM and Tata Electronics, further strengthening their market presence.

The partnership closely aligns with the Government of India’s Make in India initiative and supports the vision of products being designed and manufactured within the country. By establishing an integrated ecosystem that spans design, development, assembly, and testing, the collaboration aims to increase domestic value addition and ensure a stable supply of semiconductor products optimized for Indian market requirements. At the same time, the alliance is expected to support exports and contribute to global supply chains.

Commenting on the announcement, Dr. Randhir Thakur, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, said the company is strongly committed to building a robust semiconductor industry in India. He noted that partnering with ROHM, a global leader known for quality and reliability across multiple markets, brings significant domain expertise to the collaboration. Through its semiconductor assembly and test facilities, Tata Electronics will provide advanced chip packaging services that support ROHM in developing products suited for both Indian and global customers. He added that the partnership will help enhance trust, resilience, and diversification in the global semiconductor supply chain while creating new growth opportunities for both organizations.

Dr. Kazuhide Ino, Member of the Board and Managing Executive Officer at ROHM Co., Ltd., expressed enthusiasm about working with Tata Electronics, highlighting the company’s advanced packaging capabilities and strong presence in India. He stated that the collaboration will allow ROHM to expand its portfolio of packaged semiconductor products manufactured in India and contribute to the creation of a sustainable, regionally balanced supply chain. He also emphasized confidence that the partnership will address rising demand from Indian customers for domestically produced semiconductors, while enabling jointly manufactured products to be supplied to global markets.

Through this strategic alliance, ROHM and Tata Electronics are taking a meaningful step toward strengthening India’s semiconductor manufacturing base and reinforcing the growing technology partnership between Japan and India.
