In September 2026, apia.ai launched experience scoring for professional hiring, a tool designed to measure candidates' work history through structured interviews rather than CV screening. The feature sits within the company's chat-based interview process and scores candidates on the work they describe. It assesses the depth of ownership, the scale of outcomes linked to a candidate's decisions, and how closely that experience matches the role.

The scoring is separate from the behavioral competency measures already used on the platform. Recruiters and hiring managers can view both behavioral and experience scores together without relying on a CV sift.

The launch also targets a growing recruitment concern: the use of generative artificial intelligence in CV writing. Research cited by Sapia.ai found that large language models preferred AI-generated CVs over human-written ones 68% to 92% of the time, even when the underlying content quality was the same.
That raises the risk that application screening reflects the quality of AI prompts and writing tools rather than the strength of a candidate's actual work record. Sapia.ai's approach instead asks candidates to describe the most significant work they have been responsible for and scores those responses against role-specific criteria.

Sapia.ai also linked the launch to wider evidence on bias and prediction in hiring. Research led by UCL's Centre for Education Policy and Equalizing Opportunities, based on application data from 17 large UK employers, found that graduates from lower socio-economic backgrounds were 32% less likely to receive an offer for entry-level professional roles than their more advantaged peers, despite being well represented in applicant pools. The company also pointed to long-running research on the effectiveness of structured interviews. It also referred to evidence suggesting that questions about past behavior are better predictors of performance than hypothetical questions.

Impact on the AI Market

The platform scores every candidate on three dimensions: depth and progression, quality and scale of outcomes, and relevance and transfer, all in the same way for everyone, with the reasoning shown in plain English rather than a black-box number. It extends the structured-interview approach. Customers are already using it in high-volume, frontline hiring (retail, aviation, hospitality) into professional and leadership roles, where no scalable way to measure experience existed before.

The launch responds to four documented problems with CV screening: AI-generated application volume, socioeconomic bias in resume screening, resume embellishment, and the CV’s inability to distinguish “did the job” from “did the job well.” This company is best known for replacing CV screening with structured interviews in high-volume hiring, particularly in sectors such as retail, aviation, hospitality, and contact centers. For these particular roles, the company states that mindset and work ethic often matter more than the previous employers listed on a CV.

Impact on the Artificial Intelligence in HR Market

The global artificial intelligence in HR market size was estimated at USD 8.16 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 9.49 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 30.77 billion by 2034, expanding at a CAGR of 15.94% from 2025 to 2034.

According to Precedence Research, AI-powered hiring procedures can improve candidates' experiences by responding more quickly, facilitating individualized conversations, and maintaining constant contact throughout the hiring process. Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbots can quickly and effectively respond to candidate inquiries, guaranteeing a seamless and satisfying experience essential for company branding. AI dramatically lowers hiring expenses by increasing productivity and automating monotonous jobs.

Artificial intelligence (AI) may automate tedious processes like resume screening, allowing HR personnel to concentrate on key projects. This efficiency might result in significant cost reductions in hiring procedures and day-to-day HR duties. AI in HR can support fairness and diversity in hiring and performance reviews by standardizing candidate evaluation criteria and reducing human bias in decision-making processes.
