Single Use Support Launches Next-Generation Controlled-Rate Blast Freezer
Single Use Support introduces the progressive RoSS.BLST, a blast freezing and thawing platform intended to deliver maximum technology consistency and product quality for well-developed biologics. With improved performance, increased capacity, and recipe-driven freezing protocols down to -80°C, the technology sets a novel benchmark for reliable, scalable freeze-thaw procedures in all single-use bioprocessing container formats.
Single Use Support announces the release of its next-generation RoSS.BLST, engineered to offer highly consistent freeze-thaw presentation for biologics. The upgraded technology allows CDMOs and biopharmaceutical producers to strengthen product protection, enhance process reproducibility, and increase overall operational efficiency.
Controlled freezing for growing product quality
Cold chain management remains one of the most significant steps in bioprocessing, where non-uniform or inefficient freezing compromises drug substance integrity. RoSS.BLST mitigates these challenges with fully 21 CFR Part 11 compliant recipe-driven freezing protocols, supporting the minimization of batch-to-batch variability.
Well-developed airflow management achieves a complete air circulation every 2.5 seconds, allowing quick and uniform temperature distribution. This significant dynamic circulation supports quick heat transfer, resulting in more significant and consistent freezing profiles and enhanced product quality.
A more effective direct cooling technology paired with Siemens control technology speeds up pull-down to target temperature and cuts overall runtime, allowing rapid batch freezing cycles with lower energy demand. Intended for high loading capacities, RoSS.BLST supports up to 192 × 2 L bottles per batch, reaches target temperatures down to -80°C, and integrates rapid pull-down performance with optimized electricity and cooling water consumption.
“With our next-gen RoSS.BLST, we’re transforming the freezing of bulk-packaged drug substances into an efficient, reproducible, and scalable process,” said Markus Fürhapter, CTO of Single Use Support. “Fully controlled freeze-thaw cycles translate into consistent process reliability, without added complexity.”
More capacity. Same footprint. Greater flexibility
Beyond performance, RoSS.BLST redefines space effectiveness in presenting bioprocess facilities. With a best-in-class ratio of usable chamber volume to footprint, it offers 30% more general chamber capacity than comparable blast freezers.
Built with a stainless-steel, hygienic design intended for informal cleaning and maintenance, RoSS.BLST integrates high-performance forced-air blast freezing with a modular interior which accommodates a broad range of bioprocess container types and batch configurations. Helping decarbonization initiatives, Single Use Support’s freeze-thaw platforms applied natural refrigerants with low environmental impact.
Integrated for end-to-end cold chain operations
As part of Single Use Support’s end-to-end cold chain ecology, RoSS.BLST connects with RoSS.ULTF ultra-low temperature storage freezers and protective secondary packaging services for single-use bottles (Bottle RoSS) and 2D bioprocess containers. Composed, these services support safeguarding drug substances from freezing during filling, long-term storage, and transport.
According to Towards Healthcare, the cell and gene therapy thawing equipment market is projected to experience significant growth, with estimates suggesting the market size will increase from USD 1.26 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 4.16 billion by 2035.Expected to maintain a CAGR of 14.24% from 2026 to 2035 An intended cell thawing tool works without water; therefore, it comes with an efficiently reduced risk of contamination. An added level of contamination protection is achieved through placing the disinfectable cell thawing device in the biosafety cabinet as part of the sterile process. This tool minimizes contamination challenges (no contact of the vial with water of the water bath), based on the method used: standardized and reproducible thawing process (thawing rate, final vial temperature). Its position inside the biosafety cabinet makes thorough disinfection quicker and simpler. Based on which tools and water bath thawing method is used: higher throughput as several vials can be thawed simultaneously. This can be used for other heating, cooling, and integrating tasks.
