Brisbane’s RedEarth Energy Storage, joined by Ambibox of Germany and Nebula Electronics from China, has invented the Microgrid-in-a-Box (MIB). This allows solar generation, battery charging, and electric car charging all in one place. Unlike the old style where several devices must be attached to the wall, the MIB system controls everything through a single modular solution that updates using software. People now able to choose between a solar inverter, a battery storage system or an EV charger and with MIB, everything adapts to eventually form a whole microgrid.
The MIB unit be set up to work as V2H (vehicle-to-home) and V2G (vehicle-to-grid), with a 30 kW capacity for power and 100 kWh for storage. Because EVs are able to store electricity, people cut down on using the main grid or even get rid of a home battery. In Europe, testing revealed that people may be able to lower their energy bills by up to 60% and make money by providing grid services. Units start delivery in Australia, New Zealand, China, and Europe in 2026 and assembly and integration complete at RedEarth’s Brisbane facility. It has brought independent energy solutions to homes and it’s also a new approach to linking EVs, houses and the electric grid.
