Spineology Inc. is a well-known innovator of patient-specific expandable spinal implant systems. They have recently reported the commercial introduction of OptiMesh HA Nano, which is a significant development in expandable interbody fusion technology. It is the next-generation solution that unites the Spineology proprietary Optimesh conforming expandable implant platform with HA Nano Surface technology invented by Promimic AB. The introduction supports the history of personalization, biological performance, and precision-based spinal care, which Spineology has long been committed to.

OptiMesh HA Nano

The OptiMesh HA Nano platform is aimed at overcoming one of the most significant problems in the field of spinal fusion surgeries. This is to comply with good and stable bone integration and preserve the implant stability in the long run. The implant forms an ultra-hydrophilic micro-environment in the interface between the bone and the implant by incorporation of a nano-thin hydroxyapatite surface treatment. The surface architecture is designed to support early cellular attachment, thereby facilitating osseointegration processes and creating a stable fusion environment.

The fundamental technology in this innovation is the design of the OptiMesh expandable technology of Spineology, which is meant to fit the anatomy of each patient instead of conforming to a hard implant. This is the basis on which the HA Nanotechnology is added to increase the biological response between the implant and the surrounding bone. The nano-scale hydroxyapatite surface has been widely investigated. It has been demonstrated that the nano-scale surface promotes more rapid and stronger bone bonding.

Its partnership with Promimic AB also reinforces the scientific basis of this launch. The HA Nano Surface technology offered by Promimic is reputed to facilitate an ultra-hydrophilic surface. This is known to increase cellular interaction without modifying the macro-structure of the implant. Furthermore, the introduction of OptiMesh HA Nano is indicative of a general move towards bioactive and patient-adaptive implants.

Executive Statement

Brian Snider, Chief Executive Officer of Spineology, emphasized the strategic importance of the launch, stating, “The addition of HA Nano technology to the OptiMesh portfolio underscores our continued commitment to innovation and patient-specific care. The OptiMesh platform is uniquely built on our conform-and-expand implant technology that adapts to individual patient anatomy. With OptiMesh HA Nano, we are delivering a first-of-its-kind solution that integrates a well-studied surface treatment optimized to support spinal fusion goals and promote osseointegration.”
