Xpeng Motors Launches X9 Super Range-Extender Electric Vehicle, Signaling New Era in EV Innovation

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng Motors has unveiled its first range-extended electric vehicle (REV), the X9 Super Range-Extender, in a launch event that combined technological spectacle with automotive innovation. The talk commenced with an emotional display featuring the Xpeng humanoid robot, IRON, during which the company dissected the robot's leg live to confirm it was entirely mechanical and not a human being.

IRON was just in the headlines for its fluid, catwalk-like motions. But regarding the device, there were online concerns, as Xpeng decided to publicly demonstrate the authenticity of its robotic production. This was a bold step that highlighted Xpeng's determination to combine the latest technology with its car goals, leading to the release of the X9 REV. X9 Super Range-Extender is currently pre-selling two versions: the Max, starting at Y=350,000 (or 48,900), and the Ultra, starting at Y=370,000 (or 51,700), and will be available in the latter part of the month.

Xpeng is facilitating the installation of the X9 and future REVs by rapidly expanding fast-charging infrastructure and installing high-speed charging stations throughout the country by 2026. The X9 will be the first of a proposed line of REV versions that will extend to Xpeng sedan and SUV models next year, marking a major expansion of the company's coverage and EV ecosystem.

In addition to its technical features, Xpeng has made the X9 itself a symbol of advancement in the automotive and robotics industries. The cooperation between the vehicle platform and the humanoid robot IRON demonstrates the company's vision for interconnected mobility and intelligent technology. Moreover, the strategy demonstrates how Xpeng leverages the latest robotics and intelligent systems to enhance the processes of car testing, design verification, and user experience.
