Collaborative Robots Market Revenue Statistics

Market Overview

Collaborative robots (cobots) are gaining traction as organizations seek to automate processes, improve productivity, and enhance worker safety. Unlike traditional industrial robot, cobots are designed to work alongside humans. This makes them particularly appealing to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) seeking flexible and affordable automation solutions that don’t require extensive factory space. Manufacturers across various industries, including automotive, electronics, healthcare, and logistics, are embracing Industry 4.0, necessitating intelligent and agile robotic systems. Cobots offer quick implementation, ease of programming, and a compact design, which reduces downtime and integration costs. Advancements in technologies like sensors, artificial intelligence, and machine learning are further enhancing cobots’ capabilities and adaptability. The global collaborative robots market is witnessing rapid growth due to stringent workplace safety regulations and the growing trend of human-machine collaboration.

Industrial Automation:

The rising focus on individual automation is one of the key trends boosting the demand for collaborative robots. Several industries are adopting automation to improve efficiency, productivity, and safety. Cobots are designed to work alongside humans, making them ideal for industries with changing production needs. They can perform repetitive tasks with precision and speed, automating complex tasks and freeing human workers.

Expanding Area of Applications:

Cobots are expanding into less conventional areas, such as caregiving, with promising developments. More broadly, cobots are now supporting any new area involving repetitive tasks that require physical strength, precision, quick reaction times, and endurance. This includes industries like water treatment, power generation, electronics, manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare.

Stringent Workforce Safety Regulations:

Governments around the world have imposed stringent regulations regarding labor and workplace safety. This encourages organizations to invest in collaborative robots. These robots are designed to work safely alongside human workers, reducing the risk of workplace accidents and injuries. Moreover, companies can ensure compliance with labor safety regulations by implementing cobots, reducing the risk of fines and reputational damage.

Report Highlights of the Collaborative Robots Market

Payload Capacity Insights

The up to 5 kg segment dominated the market with the largest share in 2024 and is expected to expand at a steady growth rate during the forecast period. This is mainly due to the increased adoption of cobots with payload capacity of 5 kg in various industries like electronics, automotive, consumer products, and pharmaceuticals. These robots are suitable for various tasks, such as packaging, pick-and-place, assembly, and handling of small parts. On the other hand, the above 10 kg segment is expected to expand at the highest CAGR in the coming years. The growth of the segment is attributed to the increasing demand for cobots with payload capacity of up to 10 kg in human intensive tasks like loading and unloading of heavy components and manufacturing processes.

Application Insights

The handling segment led the market in 2024 and is projected to grow at a rapid pace in the upcoming period. Collaborative robots, or cobots, are used in material handling tasks. Cobots can operate in office environments for tasks such as moving, lifting, and carrying materials. They can easily move materials between workstations, load and unload pallets, and manage inventories. Handling cobots is also in high demand in manufacturing, shipping, and warehousing, as they reduce manual labor and streamline the supply chain safely and efficiently.

Industry Vertical Insights

The automotive segment is expected to dominate the market over the studied period. The automotive industry heavily uses cobots in assembly lines, material handling, logistics, quality control, inspection, painting and finishing, and testing applications. Cobots can improve production efficiency and reduce labor costs, making them ideal for auto manufacturers.

Regional Insights

Europe registered dominance in the collaborative robots market by capturing a major revenue share in 2024. The main drivers for cobot implementation in the region are high labor costs, workplace safety concerns, and a strong manufacturing sector. Government regulations promoting automation and workplace safety boost the adoption of collaborative robots across all sectors. The region is an early adopter of advanced technologies, including robots. Moreover, the rising focus on reducing workplace injuries and labor shortages are boosting the adoption of cobots.

Asia Pacific is expected to expand at the fastest CAGR during the projection period. This is mainly due to rising industrialization. China and India are emerging as major players in the region due to their robust manufacturing base. Government regulations promoting industrial automation and the evolution of Industry 4.0 are contributing to market growth. In addition, there is a strong focus on improving workplace safety and reducing labor costs, creating the need for cobots.

Recent Developments

  • In May 2024, the P-Series cobots were announced. Like the Lexium RL 3 and RL 12, the P-Series cobots were designed specifically for palletizing. P-Series cobots have a reach of 2,030 mm and a payload capacity of 30 kg. Their are other features unique to the cobots- specifically they were designed with a gravity-compensation mechanism that decreases the amount of power consumed, wrist-singularity-free-compliant that improves their efficiency.
  • In March 2024, Schneider Electric announced two new cobots, the Lexium RL 3 and RL 12, at MODEX 2024. These models provide a payload capacity of 3-18 kg and a positioning accuracy of ±0.02 mm. Because they are built into the EcoStruxure architecture, they work seamlessly with smart devices and services to send data and control machines, from the shop floor to the top floor.
