Apple has introduced a new entry-level laptop called the MacBook Neo, positioning it as the most affordable Mac in the company’s lineup and a lighter option for everyday computing.

Apple Silicon Performance

The MacBook Neo arrives at a moment when Apple has been refreshing much of its Mac portfolio with newer chips, including M5-powered MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models. Instead of joining that group, the Neo takes a different route. It runs on the A18 Pro processor, a chip first introduced in the iPhone 16 Pro, marking the first time Apple has built a Mac around a processor originally designed for its smartphones.

Apple appears to be aiming the machine at users who want a portable Mac for routine tasks rather than heavy professional workloads. Web browsing, document work, video calls, and everyday applications are clearly the intended focus.

The laptop features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2,408 by 1,506 and brightness rated at 500 nits. Apple says the screen supports up to one billion colours, placing it broadly in line with other recent Mac displays despite the lower price point. (Business Standard)
Portability is central to the design. The aluminium-bodied computer weighs about 1.23 kilograms and uses a fanless build, allowing it to run silently while keeping the profile thin enough for travel or daily commuting.

According to Precedence Research, the multi-touch technology market size accounted for USD 16.80 billion in 2025 and is expected to grow from USD 18.30 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 39.41 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 8.90% from 2026 to 2035. The growth of the market is primarily driven by the increasing use of smartphones, tablets, laptops, and wearables, the growing need for interactive displays, and the rising integration of multi-touch screens in vehicle dashboards for navigation and entertainment.

The company stated that the MacBook Neo can run for up to 16 hours on a single charge, a figure that reflects the efficiency gains typical of Apple’s silicon chips.
For connectivity and everyday use, the device includes two USB-C ports and a standard 3.5-millimetre headphone jack. Wireless connections are handled through Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6. A 1080p FaceTime HD camera sits above the display for video calls, supported by dual microphones and speakers capable of spatial audio and Dolby Atmos playback.

The MacBook Neo is available in four colour options — blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. Storage begins at 256GB for the base model, while a 512GB version priced at $699 adds Touch ID for fingerprint authentication.  For travellers, students, and users who already rely on other primary computers, the Neo’s appeal may lie in its portability and price.

In India, the device starts at ₹69,900, while education pricing for students and educators can bring the effective price close to ₹59,000, depending on applicable offers.
