DHL Express has added a new international express air freight solution, called Heavy Weight Express (HWX). This will allow the company to handle international shipments involving heavy goods that must be delivered quickly and in accordance with strict delivery times. The service allows customers to send goods ranging from 1,000kg per piece to 3,000kg per shipment utilizing DHL's network of aviation and ground logistics assets across more than 220 countries and territories.

A strategic extension, HWX will provide DHL Express with significantly more capability to handle high-value and reliability. Industries become more focused on the demands of ever-pressured production schedules and increased complexity. Introducing HWX is a strategic extension for DHL Express, given the increasing need for such cargo to move faster and more reliably, as supply chain disruptions are becoming more common.

The service is aimed at areas where the time of travel actually affects the continuity of activities and the economic results of operations. HWX combines its end-to-end shipment management, proactive monitoring, transparent and all-inclusive rates, and the same standards of handling procedures throughout the world. The service removes much of the unpredictable costs, lack of capacity, and uncoordinated complexity of traditional freight transport services, DHL claims.

DHL Groups

According to Precedence Research, the air freight market size accounted for USD 368.40 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 389.55 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 642.20 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 5.80% from 2026 to 2035. The market growth is attributed to rising cross-border e-commerce activity and increasing investments in high-speed global cargo transportation infrastructure.

New Service Targets Supply Chain Stability and Faster Global Cargo Movement

Global industries continue facing pressure from volatile transportation markets, geopolitical disruption, and increasing demand for faster supply chain execution. DHL Express launched its Heavy Weight Express service, which combines its end-to-end logistics platform with its new and existing customers' requirements. This service offers assured express shipping times and shipment visibility during all shipping phases.

Integrated Logistics Infrastructure Supports Predictable International Freight Operations

DHL is one of the main differentiators that make HWX stand out because of its ability to seamlessly be one link in the logistics chain, all the way through the process. The company has all of its aircraft, transportation, customs, and final delivery in-house and does not significantly rely on other providers for coordination.

The launch comes during a period of accelerated transformation across global logistics markets. Businesses increasingly prioritize resilience, visibility, and operational agility alongside transportation speed. HWX is positioning itself to take advantage of the growing demand for important, heavy next-day delivery services with the ability to handle these logistics demands around the world.
