Evonik and Fuhua Unveil 200 KT Hydrogen Peroxide Plant in China
In July 2026, Evonik and Fuhua started commercial operations at a newly built hydrogen peroxide production plant in Leshan, Sichuan province, China. This plant can produce up to 200 kilotons of hydrogen peroxide every year. This plant is one of the largest facilities for the manufacture of hydrogen peroxide and is expected to improve the indigenous supply of the compound.
This plant is intended to provide industry-grade hydrogen peroxide in the Chinese market and feedstock to the Evonik Fuhua New Materials joint project. This project has the goal of enhancing the purity of hydrogen peroxide to produce specialty grades which will be used in electronics and food safety applications. Evonik and Fuhua signed the licensing agreement in November 2023.
Evonik contributed by offering its patented hydrogen peroxide manufacturing technology and important operations equipment and catalysts. The company hired technical experts from China, Germany, and the U.S. to support engineering, construction, and startup operations.
According to Michael Traxler, Head of Evonik’s Active Oxygens business line noted that the commissioning success is proof of the capability of the company to guide customers in each phase of the project. He said that the completion of this project within the targeted duration and budget shows the strength of collaboration between Evonik and Fuhua.
According to Zhang Hua, chairman of Fuhua, this project is an important milestone for the company, and he acknowledged the importance of the partnership that brings together their regional experience and Evonik’s technical and operational prowess. He said that this project is important to cater to the growing national demand for hydrogen peroxide.

Impact on Chemical Industry
According to Precedence Research, the start of operations in the hydrogen peroxide manufacturing facility in Leshan is expected to positively impact the chemical industry. Hydrogen peroxide has various applications such as pulp bleaching and as a de-inking agent in paper recycling plants. It is also used in the mining sector to improve the efficiency of extraction and purification processes. It is also useful to meet sustainability goals as it helps to remove cyanide from the process water. China would benefit from the regional supply of hydrogen peroxide to cater to its growing needs for this compound.
Impact on the Hydrogen Peroxide Market
The global hydrogen peroxide market size is expected to be valued at USD 7.07 billion in 2025 and is anticipated to reach around USD 7.46 billion by 2026, and approximately USD 12.13 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 6.98% over the forecast period from 2026 to 2035.
According to Precedence Research, the commencement of operations in the hydrogen peroxide production plant in Leshan is expected to benefit the hydrogen peroxide market. This is owing to the fact that hydrogen peroxide is widely used as an antiseptic and as a disinfectant. It is also used for oxidizing and cleaning processes in the production of semiconductors. The demand for hydrogen peroxide is increasing as the production of semiconductors is increasing rapidly due to its uses in data centers and modern automation tools. This new facility will cater to this rising demand for the compound from various sectors.
Impact on the Waste Management Market
The global waste management market size is estimated at USD 1.28 trillion in 2025 and predicted to increase from USD 1.37 trillion in 2026 to approximately USD 2.44 trillion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 6.66% from 2026 to 2035.
According to Precedence Research, the start of operations in the new hydrogen peroxide manufacturing facility is expected to positively impact the waste management market. This is because it is used as an oxidizing agent to treat the wastewater from chemical and pharmaceutical factories.
This is an important application as governments are imposing stringent regulations that prohibit any hazardous chemicals from being released in water bodies. This compound breaks down into water and oxygen and does not leave any toxic emissions after the treatment. Hydrogen peroxide has non-corrosive properties, which help the water treatment plant to operate for a longer period of time as compared to when traditional corrosive disinfectants are used.
