In July 2026, General Motors plans to launch a proprietary in-vehicle AI assistant. This native system combines conversational tools with OnStar intelligence and vehicle telemetry, offering deeper auto integration and predictive maintenance than Google's Gemini.

GM is collaborating with a large language model provider to enhance its technology for predictive maintenance and vehicle telemetry features. The company announced that its Gemini AI bot would launch this year in millions of 2022 model-year vehicles and newer, along with a yet-to-be-named GM AI assistant designed to understand customer demands better and simplify ownership. Gemini allows natural voice interaction, offers live sessions for conversation and games, and can control certain vehicle functions like temperature and radio.

GM's Anna Santos also emphasized that this marks the beginning of a broader AI journey for GM, intending to leverage proprietary data to build deep vehicle expertise that we want to bring to the AI assistant.
