HiTHIUM Introduces World’s First Native 8-Hour Battery Energy Storage System
Global energy storage innovator HiTHIUM announced a breakthrough in long-duration energy storage with the launch of the ∞Power8 6.9MW/55.2MWh, the first battery energy storage system in the world explicitly designed to operate for 8 hours. The design of the ∞Power8 is specifically built to support 8-hour long-duration energy storage (LDES), unlike conventional systems. These systems are created by adapting shorter-duration architectures at the battery cell level through to the system level. The design is premise-based, allowing it to sustain operation throughout the day and night powered by renewable energy sources. This development addresses one of the most significant threats to modern power grids worldwide.

As the adoption of renewable energy accelerates worldwide, grid operators urgently need storage systems. They seek solutions that deliver stable, long-duration power to compensate for the variability of wind and solar energy. This need is directly met by HiTHIUM's new solution, which makes 8-hour LDES a key part of future power systems. HiTHIUM leverages the value of lithium as the most practical and scalable option for long discharge cycles.
The Power8 6.9MW/55.2MWh solution is a turnkey, highly integrated, standardized system comprising one medium-voltage power module and eight energy storage modules. This design allows each unit to deliver high power output and extended energy capacity within a small footprint. The HiTHIUM solution provides an 18% increase in deployment efficiency and a 23% reduction in land use compared to previous-generation solutions. This is especially beneficial for large renewable energy projects and space-limited applications.
The design of the ∞Power8 focuses on safety and reliability. HiTHIUM has integrated the first mass-produced high-strength steel-belt confinement system with a fast dual-valve pressure release system. This reduces the likelihood of extreme thermal events. The HiTHIUM cell is designed to have a service life of over 25 years, ensuring long-term performance stability. Additionally, the HiTHIUM introduces a new stage in LDES technology, accelerating the world's shift to reliable, all-weather renewable energy.
