India Post Launches Upgraded Dak MITRA and Dak Sewa Applications

In August 2026, the Department of Posts, India, launched the upgraded Dak MITRA and Dak Sewa mobile applications and also inaugurated 14 renovated post office buildings across the country. Many important personalities were present during the event of the application launch and post office building inauguration, including Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, and Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development.

Scindia, Union Minister of Communications and DoNER, the Department of Posts is going through extensive transformation in terms of technology, law updates, structural modernization, and next-generation infrastructure. He acknowledged the importance of the rollout of the upgraded Dak Sewa and Dak Mitra applications and said that it shows the dedication of the Department to enable easy access to and use of postal services and make them relevant for a broad range of Indian generations.

These applications have been developed by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) under the Advanced Postal Technology (APT) platform. The latest version of the Dak Mitra (Mobile Interface for Transactions & Rural Assistance) application provides an integrated workflow platform for over 0.14 million branch post offices. It is deployed on Android-based devices and allows branch postmasters to perform paperless and real-time postal and financial transactions. It facilitates mail booking, OTP-based home delivery, important banking services, insurance operations, biometric e-KYC using Aadhaar card, cash deposits and withdrawals, and PLI/RPLI premium collection at the endpoints.

The Dak Sewa application enables citizens to access postal services round the clock, which include tracking, booking, registering complaints, Post Office and PIN Code locators, and financial calculators. The application supports 23 languages through BHASHINI. The Department of Posts has partnered with the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi, to enhance the post office infrastructure. The renovated post offices that were inaugurated include Patliputra (Bihar), Vasant Kunj (Delhi), Sector-56 Gurugram (Haryana), Kakurgachi (Kolkata), Vidisha and Sanchi (Madhya Pradesh), Shillong (Meghalaya), Kandivali West (Mumbai), Shankar Nagar and Ayodhya Nagar (Nagpur), Nirala Nagar, Gomti Nagar and Indira Nagar (Lucknow), and Prayagraj.
