Leading provider of sustainable material handling solutions, Kalmar, has announced the second generation of its lithium-ion battery technology, designed to enhance the performance, safety, and sustainability of the Kalmar range of electric counter-balanced equipment. The new battery system is available for reachstackers, empty container handlers, and forklifts, marking a major step in improving operating efficiency. This further increases operating time, thermal stability, and durability. First introduced based on European standards, Kalmar has affirmed that in 2026, models complying with the standards of the United States and China will be issued.

The new development solidifies Kalmar's strong determination to accelerate the transformation of truck fleets in cargo handling into purely electric ones in ports and logistics hubs on a global scale. Based on the performance of its prior lithium-ion systems, the Gen 2 battery solution takes the cell chemistry and structural advantages that the company has developed to a new level. Because it has an even higher energy throughput level, which reduces operation downtimes, streamline shift scheduling and minimizes the cost of ownership. It gives customers a chance not only to enhance sustainability but also the predictability of operations.

The launch of the Gen 2 battery solution is opportune, as operators of logistics services worldwide are being pressured to reduce carbon emissions without compromising productivity. The push of e-commerce, ever-shorter shipping schedules, and changing requirements regarding sustainability mean that there has never been a better time to need clean. The new innovation from Kalmar addresses this requirement directly, thereby providing the power system. This further future proofed as well as those designed to keep an eye on the realities of today in the global supply chains. Furthermore, Kalmar is establishing itself as a trusted partner to ports, terminals, manufacturing hubs, and distribution centers in its strategy to drive energy transformation.
