To test the custom body panel system, Toyota Motor North America teamed up with Machina Labs and Woven Capital, Toyota's growth venture arm. Through this collaboration, low-volume on-demand manufacturing will be directly integrated into vehicle production lines, potentially resulting in significant cost savings and accelerated product development cycles. Automakers can also test different designs using the Machina Labs method without incurring significant costs by retooling entire factories.

Traditional tooling systems can weight more than 20 tons and require months to prepare according to Ed Mehr CEO and co-founder of Machina Labs Production teams can switch between designs with ease thanks to his company robotic forming technology which eliminates this bottleneck Zach Choate of Toyota underlined that this capability could enable every customer to purchase customized cars transforming what was formerly a luxury goods into a scalable manufacturing solutions.

By merging RoboForming with its RoboCraftsman platform, Machina Labs has created an ecosystem for digital, on-demand, and eco-efficient vehicle production. The system enables automakers to produce parts closer to the assembly lines, thereby reducing logistics and emissions.
