Montra Electric, the clean mobility brand of the Murugappa Group, has unveiled the Rhino 5538 EV 4×2 TT at its state-of-the-art eM&HCV. The introduction expands the company's heavy-duty electric truck range, following the success of its first-mover 6x4 TT model, which has collectively covered more than 1.2 crore kilometres in under two years. The Rhino 5538 EV marks a notable step forward in Montra Electric's quest to reinvent sustainable logistics in India through the integration of performance and cost efficiency.

The Rhino 5538 EV 4x2 TT, which comes in two models, features an inbuilt battery pack in one model and a battery-swapping option in the other, ushering in a new dimension of operational flexibility for fleet owners. This is a strong service promise that will help increase confidence in logistics providers who want to transition to electrified fleets without compromising operational effectiveness. The Rhino 5538 EV 4x2 TT incorporates the latest battery-swapping technology, making the product significantly less downtime-consuming than conventional charging. Battery exchange can be accomplished in less than six minutes-compared to over an hour using traditional fast charging. It is a viable remedy in high-use fleets.
The truck is designed with a 7+1 configuration, allowing for over 160 swaps daily at full capacity, so that operators of large fleets can easily incorporate the truck into their demanding logistics processes. This technology can enable transporters to be more productive and reduce their reliance on charging infrastructure, which remains a bottleneck in the EV industry. Furthermore, in addition to environmental advantages, the novel battery-swapping capability of the truck can also significantly reduce the costs associated with downtime and fleet utilization.
Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director, Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility):
“It is a milestone in Montra Electric’s journey of putting India firmly on the global map of sustainable mobility with the introduction of battery-swapping technology. The launch of the Rhino 5538 EV 4×2 TT, in one of the largest industry segments, demonstrates our commitment to innovation, localization, and sustainability.”
