AI Startup Moonshot Unveils Kimi K3 AI Model
In July 2026, an AI startup based in China named Moonshot unveiled the world’s largest open-weight AI model called Kimi K3. This model is trained on 2.8 trillion parameters. The company claims that this model performs better this model performs better than prominent U.S. models. The analytical tests also confirm the excellent ability of Kimi K3.
This model is claimed to be close to the performance of Anthropic’s benchmark model, such as Fable. Vals AI performed overall performance testing and placed Kimi K3 at second rank, below only Fable 5 and above GPT-5.6 Sol. Companies like Moonshot, Z.ai, and MiniMax are launching better and better models, which are comparable in performance to OpenAI and Anthropic’s benchmark models but at a much more affordable rate.
The company benefits from support from Alibaba and Tencent, and it is continuously expanding its research and development capabilities. Minimax is also working on its model, which is being trained on 2.7 trillion parameters and is expected to be launched in the second half of 2026.
