Zoodlabs SL and CrossBoundary Energy entered into a strategic partnership to develop Sierra Leone’s first 5G network, which is powered only by green resources. At the Digital Government Summit, officials revealed that solar panels, batteries, and backup generators are being used together to make the network almost always available, so it uses much less fossil fuel. This strategic initiative marks a significant step in Sierra Leone’s digital transformation, achieving 99.9% uptime through solar PV, battery, and generator hybrid systems while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
More than providing better internet, this green 5G is helping Sierra Leone become more digital. Because it is extremely fast and has very low delays, the network makes it possible for remote classes, online healthcare, smart cities, and new IoT ideas. Sierra Leone’s approach to using renewable energy with the latest internet infrastructures is a good example of how modern tech and renewables support economic growth for everyone.
Laurent Jaffart, CEO, Zoodlabs
“Our mission is to bridge the digital divide sustainably. By combining cutting-edge 5G technology with renewable power, we’re not just improving internet access — we’re helping build a greener, smarter future for Sierra Leone.”
