Romania Introduces Esanatateamea Platform for Patients to Interact With Healthcare Experts
In September 2026, Romania launched a new portal named Esanatateamea, which is intended to enable proper communication between patients and healthcare providers. The digital services that this platform is equipped with would be gradually released, according to officials. Esanatateamea has been integrated into the IT Platform of the Social Health Insurance System.
This platform would be governed by the National Health Insurance House of Romania. They said that this portal has been developed to make the workflows for the circulation of medical documents easier, decrease governance workloads, and enhance patients’ access to required data. Esanatateamea will enable people with insurance to safely perform information and documents consultation which is stored in the public health insurance system.
HoraÈiu Moldovan, the head of the National Health Insurance House, gave assurance to the people that the new portal has an advanced framework and is capable of processing data smoothly. He also said that this application eliminates the requirement for a health insurance card. People can visit the Population Records Office and change their ID card and receive a new electronic identity card, which also acts as a health insurance card.
This platform has been described as the digital health wallet by officials. It has 12 modules and has an interface that makes information discovery and consultation easy. There are various components in Esanatateamea, one of which is My Package, which stores medical history such as prescriptions and records. This portal will also provide information about reimbursement history, which will enable users to check appointments, investigations, and other healthcare services that the National Unique Health Insurance Fund paid for.
My Health Status module will fetch important data regarding health monitoring, and the “You Are Not Alone” section will answer the relevant queries of the users about medical services. The documents and information that would be fetched would not be the entire medical history of a person; rather, it would be the information that is stored in the systems of the National Health Insurance House.
Patients will have to create a secure account to access their medical information and documents via the Esanatateamea application. The identity of the users will be verified using ROeID, which is the official digital identity system that is governed by the Authority for the Digitalization of Romania. To generate a ROeID digital identity, the user needs to install the application on his/her smartphone and complete the enrollment workflow.
