Samsung Electro-Mechanics has announced the launch of a new high-reliability multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) specifically designed for hybrid inverters, reinforcing its leadership in advanced automotive electronics. The new CL21Z104KEY6PJ# capacitor measures only 2.0 x 1.2 mm and operates at 250 V, utilizing X7R dielectric technology. It acts as a snubber capacitor, an essential element that prevents transients and minimizes electromagnetic interference (EMI) to ensure dependable operation in next-generation hybrid cars. As the demand for electric and hybrid vehicles gains momentum worldwide, the need for components that can withstand severe working conditions has increased.
The new MLCC addresses these issues by delivering stable performance over a broad temperature range of -55°C to 125°C, with a capacitance of 100 μF. The capacitor is fully compliant with AEC-Q200 standards, enabling automakers and system integrators to develop smaller, more efficient powertrain systems that are more robust. Samsung Electro-Mechanics has emphasized that this new addition facilitates the miniaturization of automotive electronics, while also enhancing the stability, durability, and safety of high-voltage applications in the long run.
The hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) revolution is transforming the supply chains in the automotive industry, and capacitors have emerged as one of the most critical enablers of such change. Snubber capacitors play a crucial role in the operation of an inverter, providing smooth operation by absorbing voltage spikes, reducing noise, and minimizing energy wasted during switching. The reduction in size of high-voltage MLCCs without compromising performance gives automakers the freedom to create lighter and more fuel-efficient cars, a crucial requirement in the current competitive EV market.
This launch is also important, as the automotive industry is currently in a transition toward electrification. The expansion of its automotive-grade portfolio is evidence of Samsung Electro-Mechanics' long-term commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability in the mobile industry. Furthermore, Samsung is not only responding to the needs of the present generation by establishing new levels of reliability and miniaturization but also anticipating the needs of future electric and hybrid mobility platforms.
