Sona Comstar Sets Up Joint Venture in China for EV Components

Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. (Sona Comstart) announced the formation of its partnership of $20 million with China-based Jinnaite Machinery Co. Ltd to manufacture driveline systems, forging & machining, strengthening supply network, JNT’s casting expertise, and regulatory understanding, for future market growth in the Chinese market.  According to the news agency PTI, Sona Comstart is investing $12 million for a 60% stake. According to the statement provided by the company, JNT plans to bring $8 million worth of assets and business during the first phase of this venture. JV will operate in the second half of FY26 to complete orders of both EV and non-EV consumers.

China achieved 11 million EV sales, which accounted for two-thirds of global EV sales, with domestic OEM contributions reaching 76% in 2024. This partnership is aiming to enhance its dominant position in the global EV market.

This venture will manufacture and supply driveline systems and components to automotive OEMs in both China and the global market. Sona Constar has large suppliers of various assemblies for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in North America and Europe; now this move will expand its Asian footprint.

About Jinnaite Machinery Co., Ltd (JNT)

JNT holds 63 patents and 36 proprietary technologies, and operates a foundry utilizing these patented technologies to manufacture complex castings and molds. The company is leading in the formulation of Chinese national standards and has contributed to the development of five national standards. The company has a strong customer base among Chinese automotive OEMs, as well as those in North America, Europe, and Japan, across the automotive, off-highway, and railway sectors.

Sona Comstar has stated that “Sona Comstar is focusing on expanding its presence in Asian, particularly in China, India, Japan, and South Korea. The company is also planning to expand its position in North America and Europe.

Vivek Vikram Singh, Sona Comstar MD and Group CEO, said that, “This venture is the company's step in rapid expansion in the Asian market, where China is offering groundbreaking, innovative, and growth opportunities due to its wide electric vehicle market in the world, and leading position in EV technologies.” The JV has strengthened its position in market growth, with an already planned strong order book, he added.
