On September 22, 2026, Technip Energies and SABIC have strengthened their partnership with a select agreement for SABIC’s Clean Tubular Reactor (CTR®) technology used in low-density polyethylene production. This new agreement offers a broader commercial platform for producers looking for proven high-pressure LDPE technology for new plants, expansions, or upgrades in international markets.

Since 1996, the two companies have worked together on CTR® technology, gaining experience in plant design, construction, and commissioning. Additionally, Technip Energies will now manage global licensing of this technology and contribute its engineering, equipment manufacturing, and project execution skills to future LDPE projects.

Impact on the Petrochemical Industry

The global petrochemical market size was calculated at USD 700.10 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 743.50 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 1,257.50 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 6.03% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, chemical providers and petrochemical manufacturers are planning high-pressure LDPE plants to access the technology and engineering know-how through this corporation. This agreement may open new opportunities in the global petrochemical industry by making SABIC’s CTR® technology available worldwide through Technip Energies.

This strategy could encourage future investments in polyethylene capacity as producers consider domestic demand, feedstock costs, and long-term market needs. This long-standing involvement fosters operational resilience and production capacity.

Impact on the Plastic Packaging Industry

The global plastic packaging market size reached USD 465.48 billion in 2025 and is projected to hit around USD 687.56 billion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 3.98% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, for now, packaging manufacturers are unlikely to see much change because the agreement does not add new output. LDPE is widely used in flexible packaging, coatings, films, consumer goods, and industrial infrastructure.

Making proven LDPE technology more available could help increase the production capacity of plastics. In the future, projects using this technology could give LDPE producers more supply alternatives and affect regional availability, product development, and competitive edge.

Impact on the Industrial Services Industry

The global industrial services market size was estimated at 37.09 billion in 2025, and is projected to hit USD 39.51 billion by 2026, and is anticipated to reach around USD 69.38 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 6.46% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, with this agreement, Technip Energies moves from just providing engineering support to handling global licensing of SABIC’s CTR® technology. This approach offers a full package that includes technology licensing, plant design, equipment manufacturing, and project execution.

The agreement led to more engineering and technology opportunities as producers look at new plants, expansions, and upgrades in diversified regions. For companies building high-pressure LDPE framework, this integrated approach could make project development and coordination easier.

Expert Opinion

From the standpoint of the experts, this agreement is crucial as it brings together SABIC’s established LDPE technology with Technip Energies’ solid experience in engineering and in carrying out projects. The actual commercial value will be determined by the number of producers who decide to use CTR® technology in their new facilities.

An expert said the extent of its impact will be influenced by factors such as market conditions, investment cycles, feedstock prices, and the regional demand for polyethylene. This arrangement should be regarded as the beginning of further projects rather than as an immediate increase in LDPE production. Additionally, the trend in the field of technology licensing, namely the partnership of engineering firms with process expertise and project delivery.
