Accupower Launches Austria’s First Fully Domestic Sodium-Ion Home Storage System
Developed by the Austrian energy technology firm, Accupower, based in Graz, Natec Home is a next-generation residential energy storage platform that is constructed on the basis of sodium-ion batteries. As the first residential home energy storage solution to be fully designed and developed in Austria. Natec Home is a strategic move towards alternative chemistries in batteries in the European residential energy market. The system, which is mainly meant to be integrated with photovoltaic systems, electrical backup systems, and small- to medium-scale industrial uses. This is indicative of increasing interest in sodium-ion batteries as a safer and temperature-resistant alternative to lithium-ion technologies.

The Natec Home is designed to meet the needs of the modern house that wants to become energy independent and find stability in the grid. Costing EUR3,990, the solution is at the same price as mainstream lithium ion home batteries but has unique features in thermal stability, safety, and long-term durability. Through its move to take sodium-ion chemistry to the industrial stage and implement it in the domestic market. Accupower is an indicator of further diversification of the battery ecosystem in Europe.
The temperature range of Natec Home is also one of the most impressive, as it covers a minimum temperature of -30 °C and a maximum temperature of 50degC and it does not show significant performance loss. The battery can maintain approximately 90% of the nominal capacity even at temperatures below zero degrees. This figure is far better than most traditional lithium-ion structures, which show a more rapid decline in efficiency at low temperatures. The IP65 rating of the unit also increases its hardiness and makes it resistant to dust and water, vandalism, to ensure prolonged use in the outdoor environment.
The company has also launched Natec X-Plore, a sodium-ion battery solution, which focuses on small electric mobile applications. Accupower is scheduled to introduce containerized industrial systems- Natec Store and Natec Store C20- by the middle of 2026. These products are aimed at off-grid applications and energy back-up of industries, which once again supports the idea that the company aims at decentralized and resilient power infrastructure. Furthermore, with Europe moving faster in its energy transition and finding solutions to replace lithium-based storage technologies, sodium-ion batteries such as Natec Home can become central in this transition.
