Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), a global leader in advanced battery technology, officially launched mass production of its fifth-generation lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) cells. Based on the performance improvement of the fourth-generation LFP platform. These new cells provide much higher energy density, extended cycle life, and enhanced cost-effectiveness.

The LFP chemistry developed continuously by CATL ensures the longevity and reliability of the batteries. This is equally competitive in terms of power output compared to other mainstream second and third-generation LFP models. Making CATL a leader in the electric vehicle (EV) battery industry, allowing car manufacturers to deliver longer-range, performance, and safer cars.
CATL is also developing its ternary lithium battery programs, which power its Qilin and Freevoy brands. These chemistries are high-energy-density and are complementary in the LFP series. This shows that the company is strategically committed to providing a diverse range of chemistries in the EV ecosystem. In addition to these conventional lithium platforms, CATL is leading the sodium-ion battery market with the Naxtra series to reduce dependence on lithium, improve safety, and reduce carbon emissions.
CATL is also diversifying into commercial, maritime, and aviation electrification. Its Tectrans line has now become the platform of choice in pure-electric heavy-duty trucks. Almost 900 electric vessels are already on the road with CATL batteries, demonstrating the scalability and reliability of its platforms. The two-ton eVTOL aircraft from CATL, the pioneer in electric flight, has already completed several test flights under adverse conditions and has received Type, Production, and Airworthiness Certificates. The firm is also undertaking an Operation Certificate and demonstrating its vision to expand battery technology beyond EVs into aerospace and urban air mobility applications.
Research and development remain at the center of CATL's growth strategy. The company has spent over USD 11 billion on research and development over the last 10 years, with about USD 2.1 billion spent in the initial three quarters of this year alone. This heavy investment is the foundation for unceasing advances in battery chemistry, security, and energy efficiency, enabling CATL to be considered a technological leader. Furthermore, with an emphasis on innovation, scale of production, and environmental impact, CATL remains in the lead and defines the future of clean mobility worldwide.
