STMicroelectronics Launches Advanced UWB Chips For Enhanced Tracking
STMicroelectronics has announced its ST64UWB family, a series of ultra-wideband(UWB) system-on-chip(SoC) products. This series provides enhanced indoor positioning and tracking capabilities. This launch represents a major leap forward in micro location technology market as this technology supports a variety of industries. The new chips are expected to speed up the deployment of real-time location system technology in smart factories, hospitals and retail spaces.

Enhanced Range and Accuracy
The ST64UWB family supports IEE 802.15.4z, as well as the emerging 802.15.4ab standard, which enables long range and robust indoor positioning. The ST64UWB family uses ST’s 18 nm FD-SOI technology, which provides nearly 3 dB budget improvement and 50% range extension compared to previous UWB technology. This series includes automotive UWB chips, which are used in smart access control, proximity detection and real-time location services. These enhancements help overcome issues in environment with obstacles and interference, enabling better application performance in hands- free access control, digital keys, presence detection, and asset tracking.
This chips series also offers low-power capabilities, enabling them to be used in battery-powered devices and IoT devices that need to track location in real-time. OEMs and partners have already started sampling the ST64UWB series, which indicates its high potential for use in both automotive and connected device applications. This series is contributing to the growth of micro location applications in smart environments, logistics, healthcare, and industrial environments. It offers increased range, higher accuracy and compatibility with future standards.
The micro location technology market size was calculated at USD 9.84 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 10.94 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 28.47 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 11.21%% from 2026 to 2035 as the demand grows for precise indoor positioning and context services continues to increase in retail, healthcare and smart buildings.
Bridging Connectivity and Location
The launch of this advanced chip series has highlighted the importance of chip-level improvements in advancing indoor positioning technology. The STMicroelectronics UWB innovation in location technology enables the provision of fine-grained location services in hardware systems. This launch is expected to pave the way for reliable and versatile micro location solutions, thereby meeting the increased need for location-based solutions in both business and consumer environments.
A recent report by Precedence Research highlights that the micro location technology market is benefiting from improvements in Bluetooth Low Energy(BLE), Ultra-Wideband(UWB) technology, and AI-based location analytics for better operational efficiency.
