Nissan is accelerating its push into self-driving technology through a strategic partnership with UK-based AI startup Wavye, aiming to launch fully autonomous vehicles by 2027. Recently, Nissan showcased its Ariya electric SUV navigating Tokyo streets independently, equipped with a suite of 11 cameras, five radars, and advanced LiDAR sensors. The demonstration highlighted Nissan’s commitment to developing next-generation autonomous systems that can handle complex urban environments without human intervention.

The partnership centers on Wayves' powered methodology, which relies not only on pre-mapped routes but also learns directly from actual driving experiences. With this alliance, Nissan will be able to take on Tesla, Waymo, and GM's Cruise, among other prominent competitors in the autonomous vehicle market. Nissan may have an advantage in creating scalable and dependable autonomous solutions due to its emphasis on AI that learns from and adapts to real-time traffic situations.
