Highstar Unveils Full-Chain Battery Cell Solutions for AI Data Centers

In July 2026, at the 2026 GGII Energy Storage Industry Summit, Highstar introduced its full-chain battery cell portfolio for AI data centers. It includes 3 vital power components, namely:

  • grey-space UPS and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems
  • white-space battery backup units (BBUs)
  • grid-side energy storage

As the computing power required by AI models increases, the number of racks per unit space has increased, and the variations in load with respect to time have also gone up. This has resulted in the necessity for data centers to have low-latency, reliable backup systems, temperature variation control, and performance sustainability. Highstar uses the following 2 solutions for components that are close to the computing systems

The 85Ah high-rate lithium iron phosphate cell is used in grey space for Uninterrupted Power Systems (UPS) and High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) to provide a huge amount of power supply safely and maintain dependable power backup in conditions where the load has a wide range of deviations. 

The 50Ah sodium-ion battery cells have been imparted the capability to function at temperatures ranging from -40oC to 80oC.

Highstar has designed tabless cells which are cylinder-shaped in 18650 and 21700 architectures with LFC as well as high-nickel NMC composition. These cells are specifically developed keeping in mind the needs of battery backup units (BBUs), due to which they have the ability to provide large power flux, less internal resistance, control temperature fluctuations, and robust safety to cater to a wide range of rack densities and power requirements.
